Photo Editing Information:
Why make digital collages: basic, advanced, and “snapshot”?

Often a photograph falls short of the full message it was intended to convey. For example, in a traditional photo the person being photographed can pose the body in only one position, show only one facial expression, and wear only one favorite outfit. In other words, only a small piece of the personality comes through.
How can more of a person’s personality and energy be expressed in a single presentation? One answer is to make a digital collage using the computer to create a new image from two or more photographs. This new image can then be processed like any traditional photo. Advantages to this method include: the orginals remain undamaged; text messages can be easily added; and the final image can be produced in multiple copies and sizes.
A basic collage combines obviously distinct photos onto a background ... the concept is like a photo frame matted for presenting multiple photos or like shaping pictures with a scissors and then pasting them with glue onto a background of pretty paper.
An advanced collage combines one or more photos into another photo … common examples of this concept are memory-photos, background-switches, vignettes, etc. … the original images typically, but not always, appear distinct and distinguishable from each other in the final results.
A “snapshot” collage is an even more unique presentation looking as if it had been originally photographed that way. This innovative technique effectively expresses more fully the subject’s personality, dynamics, and interests. (see examples below)
As with any digital editing of traditional photographs, the picture’s message can be re-inforced with special effects, titles and text, and other enhancements.
